Position summary

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Piping Stress Engineer to join their Nuclear engineering team in Chickamauga, TN. This role supports piping engineering and analysis work that follows ASME codes and industry best practices. The position is full-time and based in Chickamauga, TN.


What you’ll do

This is an entry-level role focused on learning and applying core engineering principles while supporting project teams. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Under supervision, gather data and prepare simple engineering calculations.
  • Support preparation of system/structural designs of limited scope.
  • Collect data for specifications, reports, studies, and bid tabulations.
  • Communicate technical information and results clearly to project team members and supervisors.
  • Apply accepted standards and processes to assigned tasks.
  • Complete assignments within allocated timeframes and grow technical capabilities on projects.
  • Participate in evaluation tasks related to vibration, hydraulic transients, thermal stratification, hydrodynamic loads, pipe rupture, wall thinning (FAC/MIC), and pipe flaw evaluations as directed.

Essential qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aerospace, or Structural/Civil Engineering with emphasis in solid mechanics, structural analysis, theory of elasticity, metallurgy, or finite element analysis.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.

Valued (but not required) qualifications

  • Degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT).
  • Previous related internship or co-op experience.
  • Familiarity with AutoPIPE and PIPESTRESS software.
  • Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to support automation and data processing.

AI & Automation

Confidential Client expects engineers to use modern tools to improve workflows and deliver cost-effective designs. In this role you may:

  • Use automation and AI tools to assist calculations, document summarization, and draft documentation — with engineering judgment and verification.
  • Build or use scripts or tools to automate repetitive checks or reporting (programming skills are valued but not required).
  • Be encouraged to learn skills that support automation, AI, and data-driven engineering.

Compensation Range

  • $62,998 - $90,586 (base annual salary range)

Confidential Client discloses compensation ranges that comply with applicable local and state regulations. Final compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and role location; eligible roles may also participate in discretionary bonuses and benefits.
