Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Substation Physical Engineer to join their Power Delivery — Substation team supporting client projects across the U.S. This is an early-career, full-time opportunity based in Chickamauga, TN. You will work under senior engineers to learn substation physical design (foundations, grounding, equipment layouts, and cable routing) and gain hands-on experience with industry design software.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred)
- 0–2 years engineering experience; entry-level applicants encouraged
- Local candidate or able to commute to Chickamauga/Chattanooga or Knoxville, TN areas
- FE (Fundamentals of Engineering) passed is a plus, not required
- Fast learner who adopts standards and software quickly
- Self-starter who seeks answers independently and asks appropriate questions
- Clear, professional communicator in person, by phone, and by email
What You’ll Learn
- Substation physical engineering fundamentals — foundations, grounding, cable routing, clearances, conductor sizing, equipment ratings
- Industry design software — Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, Bluebeam Revu, Microsoft Excel
- Project lifecycle — from concept and design through delivery and closeout
- Cross-discipline coordination — Protection & Controls, Civil, Studies, and other engineering groups
What You’ll Do
- Work on a team of drafters, designers, and engineers to produce substation physical designs
- Create equipment, structural, foundation, grounding, and cable routing plans and details
- Develop Bills of Materials (BOMs) and maintain drawing/documentation quality
- Complete client and internal QA checklists and participate in peer reviews
- Coordinate across disciplines and with project managers and client staff
- Grow toward independent project responsibility under mentor guidance
