Role Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is seeking a detail-oriented, entry-level Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations for their Mundelein, IL office. This role is ideal for someone building a career in payroll or accounting and who is comfortable handling confidential employee information, processing payroll entries, and supporting payroll tax and reporting tasks.
Responsibilities
- Collect, review, and verify timesheets, attendance records, and payroll documentation
- Audit timekeeping records, identify discrepancies, and coordinate with employees and supervisors to resolve issues
- Process regular hours, overtime, commissions, bonuses, deductions, garnishments, and other payroll adjustments
- Assist with weekly, biweekly, or monthly payroll processing as scheduled
- Review payroll registers and prepare payroll reports to ensure accuracy
- Ensure direct deposits, checks, and other employee payments are processed correctly and on time
- Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, taxes, direct deposits, and payroll corrections
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee payroll records
- Support payroll tax reporting, W-2 preparation, year-end processing, and general payroll compliance
- Help ensure payroll practices follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations and company policies
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associates or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred
- 1+ year of administrative, accounting, payroll, or office experience preferred (entry-level candidates encouraged to apply)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information professionally and discreetly
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and learning payroll systems
Compensation & Location
- Estimated pay: $47,204 per year (estimated)
- Location: Mundelein, IL — this is an on-site role based in Mundelein. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
