What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring a Payroll Coordinator I (Temporary) to support the payroll team with accurate payroll processing, timekeeping, and employee payroll inquiries. This entry-level role requires strong attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to collaborate across HR and Finance.

  • Collect, calculate, and enter payroll data; retrieve payroll records as needed.
  • Support payroll processing in accordance with company policy and federal/state regulations.
  • Maintain secure, accurate payroll records and prepare/distribute payroll reports.
  • Audit employee payroll data (new hires, terminations, promotions, compensation changes).
  • Serve as a first point of contact for routine employee payroll questions and escalate as appropriate.
  • Process weekly labor-hour reports for temporary associates and coordinate with staffing agencies.
  • Review and troubleshoot timekeeping discrepancies; coordinate adjustments with supervisors.
  • Process historical timecard adjustments and manage time-off accruals.
  • Coordinate deduction start/stop dates with HR; audit 401(k) elections and submit files.
  • Create and maintain standard operating procedures and payroll documentation.
  • Assist with employment verifications, workers’ compensation reports, and payroll backups.
  • Run preliminary and final payroll reports and support month/quarter/year-end salary reporting.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and 5S activities; follow Safety and ISO procedures.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
  • Typically 1–2 years of payroll or related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic understanding of wage-and-hour laws and payroll tax withholdings.
  • High level of accuracy and strong data-entry skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; customer-service oriented.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with payroll systems preferred.
  • Strong time management, ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and multitask.
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive employee data.
  • Problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve common payroll issues.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and collaborating across teams.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Primarily office-based work with prolonged periods sitting and computer use.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of files; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • May be required to wear PPE where applicable and complete EH&S training.
  • On-site work may be required at management’s discretion.

Compensation & Employment Type

  • Estimated pay: $70,308 per year (estimated).
  • Employment type: Contract / Temporary (may include Full-Time hours depending on assignment).
  • Location: Portsmouth / Newington, NH area — on-site work may be required.
