What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring entry-level Patrol Officers (Police Officer — Uncertified). In this role you will:
- Investigate crimes and traffic accidents; prepare clear, timely reports
- Patrol commercial, business, industrial, and residential areas to enforce city ordinances and state law
- Make arrests, process crime scenes, and follow up on investigations
- Direct and control traffic; testify in court and in legal proceedings when required
- Operate and maintain assigned law‑enforcement equipment and vehicles
- Use Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) to write reports and correspondence
- Engage with the community to promote crime‑prevention programs
- Work rotating 12‑hour shifts (days, nights) and assist other departmental staff as directed
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; some college coursework preferred
- Must be at least 21 years of age and a United States citizen
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude as defined by law
- Must meet Tennessee Code Annotated (TCA 38-8-106) qualifications for police officers (applicable state law requirements)
- Good moral character and clear background check required
- Must pass pre-employment physical (hearing, vision, overall fitness), psychological evaluation, and drug screen
- Basic proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook) required
Physical & Work Environment
This is a physically demanding, safety‑sensitive role. Typical requirements include:
- Ability to run, jump, crawl, climb, drag (including dragging a 175 lb. mannequin during testing), and negotiate obstacles
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, move or drag heavy objects (100+ lbs.) when necessary
- Wear and operate 15–25 lbs of equipment for a 12+ hour shift and safely handle firearms
- Visual acuity for night and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Regular outdoor work in varying weather; possible exposure to fumes, bloodborne pathogens, and high‑stress or dangerous situations
Compensation & Progression
- Starting pay (Uncertified Officer Trainee): $26.84 per hour / $55,827.20 annually
- After successful completion of Police Academy (Certified Officer Trainee): $27.65 per hour / $60,387.60 annually
- At one year anniversary from date of hire (promotion to Certified Police Officer): $30.07 per hour / $65,672.88 annually
- Eligible for shift differentials, specialized duty stipends, and education incentives (e.g., 3% hourly increase for a bachelor’s degree, additional 3% for a master’s degree)
- Paid training/academy attendance is required; academy dates will be scheduled with notice
Selection Process & Testing
- Applicants must be available to attend State Police Academy training without absences (unless previously completed at a Tennessee State Academy within the last 24 months)
- Selection includes: background check, motor vehicle record review, pre‑employment medical exam, hearing/vision testing, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and a basic physical ability test
- The physical ability test is timed and includes running, jumping, obstacle negotiation, dragging a mannequin, crawling, and climbing. A written exam will be administered for candidates who pass the physical ability test. Candidates may purchase an optional study guide and practice test at their own expense.
