What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is seeking a Full‑Time Patient Care Technician (Ortho Trauma) to support a busy surgical orthopedic and urology unit. This role delivers hands‑on patient care under RN direction and supports the clinical team to ensure safe, compassionate treatment.

  • Deliver routine patient care and assist with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, toileting, ambulation, repositioning).
  • Take and record vital signs; perform blood glucose checks.
  • Perform simple dressings, 12‑lead EKGs, bladder scans, and specimen collection.
  • Transport patients and assist with safe ambulation and transfers.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and safety concerns promptly.
  • Support nursing assessments and follow RN/physician instructions for patient therapies and procedures.
  • Document care accurately and complete assigned clerical tasks as needed.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and Confidential Client policies at all times.

Who You Are / Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Entry-level pay starts from $19.40 per hour.
  • For Senior Patient Care Technician titles: either
    • 2 years of general healthcare experience plus PCT qualifications, or
    • 1 year of healthcare experience plus enrollment in PT/OT/PA program with one clinical rotation completed, or
    • 1 year of healthcare experience plus bachelor’s degree in a health sciences field.
  • Nursing students with at least one completed clinical rotation are encouraged to apply.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic certification or current enrollment preferred.
  • CPR/BLS required (CPR must include didactic and skills components and be completed within 30 days of hire). ACLS preferred when applicable.
  • Successful completion of unit training programs (e.g., cardiac rhythm course) and any required eRecord training.
  • Strong communication skills, professionalism, and ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Minimum availability: 36 hours per week; may include 8‑ and 12‑hour shifts.

Work Schedule & Location

  • Full‑time position based in Pittsburgh, PA.
  • Role requires rotating shifts (day, evening, overnight) and weekend/holiday coverage as scheduled.
  • Unit: 25‑bed surgical orthopedic & urology unit focused on orthopedic trauma and related care.

Confidential Client supports career growth via a Nursing Support career ladder: Nursing Assistant → Patient Care Technician → Senior/Specialist Patient Care Technician → Lead Patient Care Technician. Training, mentorship, and continuing education are provided to help you advance.
