What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is seeking a Patient Access Specialist I to support revenue-cycle and patient access operations at their Lawrence, MA location. This entry-level role focuses on patient registration, insurance verification, scheduling, and financial-clearance activities that enable timely patient care and accurate billing.
- Coordinate incoming referrals from physician practices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other facilities
- Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information; obtain necessary referrals
- Schedule consultations and confirm pre-visit paperwork with clear instructions
- Verify insurance benefits, determine patient responsibility, and collect pre-service payments
- Assist patients with applications for MassHealth, Health Safety Net, disability programs, and other resources; refer to outside agencies when necessary
- Serve as a patient liaison for financial matters and work closely with Social Work, Case Management, Billing, and Contracting
- Process medical record requests and document all account actions and meeting notes
- Maintain compliance with regulations and stay current on payer requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years related experience in insurance, managed-care referral processing, a physician’s office, or hospital registration
- Strong customer-service skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3 years related experience in insurance, managed-care referral processes, or hospital/physician practice registration
- MassHealth Certified Application Counselor (preferred)
Skills & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and insurance benefit applications
- Excellent interpersonal and written-communication skills
- Strong systems skills; comfort using spreadsheets and healthcare business technologies
- Ability to learn and apply regulatory and procedural changes
- Capacity to handle stressful or sensitive financial conversations professionally
Physical & Work Environment
- Full-time schedule: 40 hours weekly, Monday–Friday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- Primarily sedentary; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs, walking, standing, stair use, and operating office equipment
- Occasional use of PPE when required; occasional interactions with patients in distress or with behavioral challenges
Compensation & Total Rewards
- Pay range: $20.12 - $25.15 per hour (based on full-time equivalent)
