Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Pathologists' Assistant to support surgical and autopsy pathology services. This full-time role works under the supervision of a pathologist to prepare, examine, document, and preserve specimens, assist with autopsies (including forensic/medicolegal cases), and support research and biospecimen banking efforts. This is an entry-level to early-career role with close supervision and opportunities to instruct trainees.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, gross (visual exam), and dissect surgical and autopsy specimens for diagnostic evaluation.
- Assist with forensic, medicolegal, and hospital autopsies and related case documentation.
- Summarize medical records and draft autopsy and pathology reports.
- Prepare tissue for pathological examination and testing, including specimen photography and slide preparation.
- Complete surgical pathology protocols, enter specimen coding and billing data, and file reports and slides.
- Maintain pathology equipment and supplies; ensure surgical pathology suite cleanliness and compliance with safety procedures.
- Instruct pathology residents, fellows, and pathology assistant students; collaborate with lab personnel.
- Participate in research projects and procure samples for biospecimen banking.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Pathology or a related biological science.
- Must obtain certification as a Pathologist’s Assistant from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to work full time and meet physical demands listed below.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Pathology or related biological science.
- Prior experience in a pathology or anatomic laboratory setting.

- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Clear, professional communication skills for interaction with clinicians, staff, and external partners.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures, maintain accurate records, and work within regulatory/safety requirements.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Frequent standing or walking for up to half of the workday; ability to lift or push up to 200 pounds with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Regular exposure to human tissues, biological specimens, and potentially noxious odors; strict adherence to PPE and biosafety protocols is required.
- Work may involve contact with physicians, house staff, funeral homes, and external hospitals.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range (posted): $101,084.26 - $128,878.21 per year. Individual offers consider experience, certifications, education, and internal equity.
