What You’ll Do
This Pathologists' Assistant will work under the direction of a pathologist to support diagnostic and clinical pathology operations in a hospital setting. The role includes specimen preparation, grossing, autopsy support, and participation in research and education to support patient care and laboratory quality.
- Prepare, gross (examine with the naked eye), and dissect surgical and autopsy specimens
- Assist with hospital, medicolegal, and forensic autopsies under pathologist supervision
- Summarize patient medical records and draft autopsy and pathology reports
- Prepare tissue for histologic examination, including photography and documentation of specimens
- Complete surgical pathology protocol reports, file reports and slides, and enter specimen and billing codes
- Maintain equipment, manage supplies, and ensure surgical pathology suite cleanliness and safety
- Train and instruct pathology residents, fellows, students, and other laboratory personnel
- Participate in basic and applied research and assist with biospecimen banking activities
What We’re Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Pathology, Biology, or a related biological science
- Certified Pathologists’ Assistant (ASCP) required within six (6) months of hire
- Ability to work cooperatively with physicians, residents, and other clinical staff
- Strong attention to detail, written and verbal communication skills, and analytical ability
- Willingness to follow biohazard, infection control, and lab safety procedures

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Pathology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
- Prior experience in surgical pathology, autopsy services, or forensic pathology
- Experience with specimen photography, biospecimen banking, and training learners
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Frequent standing or walking (up to half the day); ability to lift or push up to 200 pounds with appropriate assistance/equipment
- Frequent exposure to human tissue, bodily fluids, and possible biohazards; work around odors and chemical fumes
- Close contact with clinicians, funeral homes, and external partners; adherence to strict confidentiality and safety protocols
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay Range (full-time equivalent): $101,084.26 - $128,878.21
- Individual offers are determined using experience, certifications, education, skills, and internal equity
