Role Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Part Time Tax Auditor to support motor fuel tax account management and related tax compliance activities. This role performs routine audits, reconciliations, and reviews of tax returns and refund claims, and prepares monthly close-out reports for finance and transportation stakeholders.
What You’ll Do
- Review and manage Motor Fuel Tax accounts, including establishing new accounts and monitoring for non-filing, outstanding balances, and account changes.
- Process amended returns and review Motor Fuel Tax and Dyed Diesel refund claims monthly for accuracy and compliance.
- Perform daily reconciliation of Motor Fuel Tax revenue deposits and prepare comprehensive monthly close-out reports with statistical and revenue data for management and state agencies.
- Examine tax returns, financial statements, and supporting documentation to verify accurate reporting of tax obligations.
- Use auditing software and analytical tools to identify discrepancies, errors, or potential fraud; prepare audit workpapers and reports.
- Communicate audit findings to taxpayers professionally (written correspondence, phone calls, and in-person meetings as needed).
- Maintain accurate records of audits, including workpapers, correspondence, and findings, consistent with department policies and legal requirements.
- Collaborate with auditors, supervisors, and managers to share knowledge and improve audit processes and investigations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of twelve (12) semester hours in accounting (per ACA 26-17-203) is required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret and analyze financial data.
- Basic familiarity with auditing techniques, tax law concepts, or willingness to learn auditing software and tools.
- Professional communication skills for interacting with taxpayers and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and follow established procedures.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Any coursework or experience related to tax, auditing, or public finance.
- Experience with accounting or audit software, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools.
- Internship or prior entry-level auditing experience.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage recurring monthly close-out tasks.
Compensation & Schedule
- Employment type: Part time.
- Estimated pay (as listed): $46,350 per year (estimated).
- Schedule: Part-time hours; specific schedule and weekly hours will be determined by the hiring department.
