Position overview
Confidential Client is hiring a part-time, entry-level Geotechnical Technician based in Lexington, KY. This hybrid field-and-lab role supports geotechnical investigations, materials testing, construction quality assurance, and instrumentation monitoring for water and civil infrastructure projects. The position requires regional travel with occasional overnight stays.
What You’ll Do
- Testing of soils, concrete, rock, and construction materials in both laboratory and field settings
- Operate computerized and digital testing equipment (e.g., consolidometers, moisture/density devices, compressive strength testers)
- Perform construction quality assurance (CQA) for geosynthetic and related construction items
- Monitor geotechnical instrumentation and collect field data (inclinometers, piezometers, settlement plates, etc.)
- Inspect and review construction for conformance with plans, specifications, codes, and standards
- Prepare clear daily field reports and provide project progress updates to Project Managers, clients, design professionals, and contractors
- Interact professionally with client representatives, contractors, and geotechnical engineers on-site
- Assist with installation inspection for process/mechanical equipment and balance-of-plant construction items as needed
Required Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science in geotechnical, civil, or related field preferred
- Experience with laboratory and field construction/testing activities is a plus
- Familiarity with ASTM testing standards advantageous
- Proficient with desktop office applications (Word, Excel) and basic digital reporting tools
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively on multidisciplinary teams
- Self-starter, motivated, and able to meet tight deadlines on complex projects
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a clean driving record required
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screen if requested
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; BS in related field preferred
- Certifications encouraged (or willing to obtain): ACI, Troxler, NICET, or other relevant industry credentials
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated pay (per Ad listing): $62,488 per year (estimated). Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro‑rated based on agreed weekly hours and is determined by experience, education, and location.
