What You’ll Do

Packaging Systems Design Engineer I — entry-level role focused on scoping, designing, and supporting packaging equipment for food & beverage processing projects.

  • Develop design concepts, estimates, and functional specifications for packaging lines.
  • Interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications to ensure compliance in packaging system designs.
  • Specify, purchase, coordinate installation, and commission packaging equipment.
  • Support on-site construction project coordination and management.
  • Contribute to machine and process design, preparation of machine testing requirements, and test procedures.
  • Prepare equipment specifications, purchase documentation, and equipment/facility layouts.
  • Survey existing site conditions and produce AutoCAD equipment layouts.
  • Create packaging flow diagrams, material balances, packaging matrices, and equipment lists.
  • Assist with equipment bid packages and produce basis-of-design and design-basis documents.
  • Advise on manufacturing and packaging design principles including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, and palletizing.
  • Support process simulation and sanitary/warehouse layout design when needed.
  • Provide construction site support and observe rough-in construction for compliance with plans, specs, and details.
  • Research packaging engineering best practices and support talent growth across the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering.
  • 0–3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent coursework) in scoping, layout, installation, and commissioning of packaging equipment lines.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and proficiency with MS Office; experience with MS Project is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity, a positive, team-oriented attitude, and strong problem solving, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Experience with food & beverage or packaging firms, or professional services, is a plus.

Logistics & Compensation

  • Estimated salary: $57,549 per year (estimated).
  • Travel: 50%+ travel required for on-site construction project coordination and management.
  • Physical: Prolonged computer work; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally.
  • Employment type: Full-time (on-site and field work required per project schedule).
