Packaging Engineer 1
The Packaging Engineer 1 at Confidential Client is responsible for designing, testing, and validating sterile and non-sterile medical product packaging in compliance with design control and quality system standards. This role supports process development and implementation across manufacturing sites and suppliers, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives to ensure packaging quality, cost-effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.

What You’ll Do
This entry-level Packaging Engineer role supports the design, testing, and validation of sterile and non-sterile packaging for medical products. You will work with cross-functional teams to develop packaging that meets product protection, regulatory, and production requirements while supporting transfer to manufacturing and continuous improvement.
- Assist cross-functional project teams to develop medical device packaging, specifications, and manufacturing processes following design control procedures.
- Support redesigns of existing packaging and processes to improve quality, increase automation, and reduce cost.
- Perform risk analysis, design input/output documentation, and design verification/validation activities.
- Conduct or coordinate package testing in the internal packaging lab or with external testing vendors.
- Use DOE and basic statistical tools to support process development and validation; help implement controls and metrics.
- Coordinate transfer of parts, assemblies, documentation, and processes from prototype through pilot to production.
- Support investigations of packaging-related product complaints and help implement corrective actions.
- Prepare and update Design History Files (DHF), Device Master Record (DMR) documentation, SOPs, and work instructions in compliance with the client's Quality System.
- Participate in design/technical reviews and supplier interfaces (sourcing, R&D, quality, regulatory, marketing).
- Learn and follow medical device manufacturing and quality requirements; develop project management and technical writing skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related technical discipline (Packaging Science or equivalent). Professional Engineer (PE) certification is a plus.
- 0–2 years relevant experience (product design, machine design, manufacturing, medical device or pharmaceutical). Co-op/internship or related general work required for entry level.
- Basic package testing and design knowledge.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication; works well in cross-functional teams.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and comfortable using computerized analysis tools.
- Self-motivated, collaborative, and able to take initiative to meet deadlines.
- Able to travel domestically and internationally (up to ~10%).
