What You’ll Do
Packaging Systems Design Engineers design, specify, install, and support packaging equipment lines for food & beverage processing facilities. In this entry-level role you will work with process, controls, and building systems engineers to help scope, lay out, install, and commission packaging equipment. Typical responsibilities include:
- Developing design concepts, estimates, and functional specifications for packaging lines
- Interpreting mechanical design requirements and customer specifications
- Specifying, purchasing, installing, and commissioning packaging equipment
- Coordinating and supporting on-site construction and installation activities
- Machine and process design tasks, including testing requirements and procedures
- Preparing equipment specifications, purchase documentation, and facility/equipment layouts
- Surveying existing site conditions and developing AutoCAD equipment layouts
- Creating packaging flow diagrams, material balances, packaging matrices, and equipment lists
- Assisting with equipment bid packages and producing basis-of-design and design-basis documents
- Advising on manufacturing and packaging design principles (conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, palletizing)
- Supporting process simulation and sanitary/warehouse layout considerations
- Providing construction site support and observing rough-in construction compliance
- Researching packaging engineering best practices and supporting talent growth within the organization
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Packaging, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (education or work) in packaging equipment scope, layout, installation, or commissioning
- Familiarity/proficiency with MS Office, MS Project; experience with AutoCAD is preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity, positive team-oriented attitude, and strong problem solving and time-management abilities
- Experience with food & beverage or packaging firms is a plus
- Willingness and ability to travel frequently (50%+ annually) for project site coordination and management
Additional Details
- Employment type: Full-time
- Travel requirement: 50%+ (onsite project coordination and management)
- Physical requirements: prolonged periods seated at a desk and working on a computer; must be able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
Compensation & Benefits
- Estimated annual compensation (source): $59,474 (estimated)
