What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Packaging Systems Design Engineer I to support packaging equipment design, installation, and commissioning for food & beverage processing projects. This is a field-forward, hands-on engineering role with significant travel to job sites for installation and start-up activities.
- Develop design concepts, estimates, and functional specifications for packaging lines
- Interpret mechanical requirements and customer specifications to ensure design intent is met
- Specify, procure, install, test, and commission packaging equipment
- Produce equipment and facility layouts (AutoCAD) and packaging flow diagrams
- Create material balances, packaging matrices, and equipment lists
- Prepare machine testing requirements, test procedures, and basis-of-design documentation
- Support equipment bid packages and assist during procurement evaluations
- Coordinate on-site construction activities and provide installation support
- Observe rough-in construction for compliance with drawings, specs, and details
- Assist in sanitary design, warehouse layout, and process simulation efforts
- Support cross-disciplinary teams (process, controls, building systems) during project lifecycle
Who You Are / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Packaging, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- 0–3 years of relevant experience (internships, co‑ops, or early-career roles are welcome)
- Familiarity with packaging processes: conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing, palletizing
- Experience or coursework in machine and process design, equipment commissioning, or machine testing
- Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project; familiarity with AutoCAD preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Intellectual curiosity, a collaborative attitude, and strong problem‑solving abilities
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
Location, Travel & Physical Requirements
- Work location: Camp Mabry, TX (role supports projects across client locations)
- Travel: 50%+ travel required for on-site project coordination, installation, and commissioning
- Physical: prolonged desk/computer work; ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
