What You’ll Do
Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level P&C Field Technologist Associate to perform hands-on installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protection & control (P&C) devices and related station equipment under general supervision.
- Test, calibrate and maintain protection & control devices (digital relays, electromechanical relays, intelligent electronic devices, SDR/DFR/event recorders, RTUs, station SCADA).
- Install, operate and maintain power line carrier (PLC), tone, pilot wire, fiber and P&C communications equipment.
- Operate test equipment and computer-based tools to retrieve and analyze relay and oscillography data.
- Assist with switching under Dispatching Authority direction and support trip-testing teams.
- Troubleshoot and repair electromechanical and microprocessor-based relays (card-level repairs such as power supplies, comms cards, I/O).
- Assist in installation, testing, and commissioning of new P&C systems; support on-site technical lead and coordinate contract personnel as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and drawings; ensure installations match electrical schematics before placing equipment in service.
What We're Looking For
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ABET-accredited) or engineering technology (ABET-accredited).
Experience Requirements
- Entry-level role suitable for new graduates with a relevant Bachelor’s degree.
- Must successfully complete the Physical Abilities Test (PAT).
- Must be able to distinguish colors on a standard color blindness test.
Other Preferred Skills
- Working knowledge of current, potential, closing and trip circuits.
- Familiarity with protective relay and control circuit hardware (cable, lugs, wire).
- Ability to read, interpret and correct electrical prints and schematics.
- Comfortable using hand tools and maintaining test equipment.
- Strong attention to safety, good customer-facing skills, clear written and verbal communication.
- Willingness to travel and work overtime as required.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and meet vehicle operation requirements per law.
Competencies & Work Style
- Technical proficiency consistent with an ABET-accredited entry-level engineering or engineering-technology program.
- Planning and organization: maintain records and prepare test/project reports; assist in planning and cost estimate activities.
- Problem solving: apply technical knowledge to resolve routine issues; seek opportunities to expand skills.
- Decision-making: develop understanding of utility operations and business practices under guidance.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Ability to lift and carry required test equipment and tools.
- Work outdoors and in confined spaces; may be required to switch equipment energized up to 765 kV using appropriate PPE.
- Color vision required (standard color blindness test).
- Physical work classified as Light Work (lifting up to ~20 lbs occasionally; more activity than sedentary roles).
