Role Summary

The Confidential Client is hiring a P&C Data Analyst to support pricing, underwriting, and portfolio management by producing data-driven insights and supporting predictive modeling efforts. This is an onsite position in Richmond, VA. The role partners closely with actuaries, underwriters, claims, product, distribution, and data/IT teams to translate business questions into analytical solutions and monitor outcomes.


What You’ll Do

  • Support pricing analyses, rate reviews, segmentation evaluations, and portfolio monitoring across Personal and Commercial Lines.
  • Analyze trends in frequency, severity, retention, growth, and profitability to inform business decisions.
  • Prepare data, develop features, and run exploratory and production analyses to support predictive modeling efforts.
  • Work with SQL and analytical programming languages (Python or R) to query, transform, and analyze large structured and semi-structured datasets.
  • Produce recurring and ad-hoc reports and dashboards that clearly communicate findings and recommended actions.
  • Ensure data quality, reproducibility, and documentation of models, assumptions, and results; support model governance standards.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, actuaries, and product partners on analytic projects involving risk segmentation and portfolio optimization.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and onboarding of new data sources and analytic techniques to improve pricing and underwriting decisions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, computer science, data science, or a related quantitative field.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience in analytics, actuarial support, or quantitative roles (a master’s may substitute for 1–2 years of experience).
  • Proficiency with SQL and at least one analytical programming language (Python or R).
  • Experience working with large, complex datasets and strong attention to data quality.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate technical analyses into clear, actionable recommendations and visualizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance supporting pricing, actuarial, underwriting, claims, or product groups.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, predictive modeling, or machine learning concepts.
  • Experience with cloud-based analytics platforms and modern data environments.
  • Knowledge of insurance data structures, rating variables, and policy lifecycle processes.
  • Experience with data lineage, validation, mapping, and reconciliation processes.
  • Comfortable working in Agile or cross-functional project teams.

Location & Compensation

  • Work location: Onsite — Richmond, VA.
  • Base salary range for Richmond, VA: $68,000 - $95,000 (final offer commensurate with experience).
