Role overview
This is an entry-level supervisory Outreach Supervisor role supporting major capital and infrastructure programs. You will lead and coordinate public outreach and stakeholder engagement activities across a designated area, develop outreach and communications strategy for transmission and distribution projects, supervise outreach staff, and work closely with senior leadership to support planning, approvals and construction. This position is hybrid (minimum three onsite days per week) with overnight travel required.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise and coordinate public outreach staff and daily project workflow.
- Develop strategic outreach, construction communications plans, and media management for transmission and distribution projects.
- Lead stakeholder engagement with local municipalities, property owners, businesses, special interest groups, and media.
- Collaborate with Regional Public Affairs and Corporate Communications to reduce project constraints and support long-term success at the municipal and community levels.
- Identify, influence, and manage issues related to capital projects; escalate issues and inform senior management as needed.
- Manage team operational tracking, communications systems, and vendor administration.
- Monitor project-related claims and adapt communications plans to maximize positive outcomes.
- Travel overnight as required for project coordination and stakeholder meetings.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Public Affairs, or related field AND 4+ years' experience in governmental affairs, corporate communications, public affairs, community outreach, customer-facing roles, or related experience OR in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, 8 years' relevant experience in community outreach/relations, public affairs/relations, corporate communications, customer relations, or governmental affairs.
- Demonstrated customer focus and strong interpersonal skills.
- Outstanding written, verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong strategic thinking, leadership and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to conduct research, prepare competitive intelligence, and develop executive-level public affairs assessments.
- General familiarity with creative processes (layout, photography, print production).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Desired:
- Experience interacting with executives, public officials, and community/local boards.
- Budget preparation and management, project planning, and reporting skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Understanding of utility or infrastructure industry issues.
- Prior staff management or supervisory experience.
Location & logistics
- Primary reporting location: South Plainfield, NJ.
- Work model: Hybrid — at least three onsite days per week.
- Overnight travel is required.
- No visa sponsorship is available for this position.

Compensation & benefits
- Salary range (from source): $107,600 - $170,300 per year.
