What You’ll Do

Confidential Client is hiring Nursing Assistants to provide direct patient care in a mental/behavioral health setting. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support recovery, safety, and daily living activities for patients with a range of mental health needs.

• Provide direct patient care consistent with care plans and under supervision of licensed nursing staff
• Observe and report changes in patients’ physical or emotional status to supervisors promptly
• Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting) and patient mobility, including safe transfers
• Perform basic diagnostic/support tasks (e.g., specimen collection, basic monitoring such as blood glucose, bladder scans) as trained and delegated
• Support therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques for patients experiencing behavioral crises
• Assist with documentation and contribute to completion of nurse care plans
• Support orientation and mentoring of new Nursing Assistants when assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must meet the position's baseline requirements. Candidates not meeting all requirements may be referred but will not be hired until all conditions are satisfied.

• United States citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only in accordance with applicable VA/agency policy)
• Proficiency in spoken and written English sufficient to perform job duties and document care
• Education: at least one year of post-high-school coursework related to Nursing Assistant occupation OR completion of a shorter intensive, occupation-related NA course (evidence/transcripts required where noted)
• Creditable experience documented and verifiable; part-time experience may be prorated for credit toward full-time equivalence
• Grade eligibility: selection may occur between GS-03 (entry) and GS-05 (full performance) depending on education and experience

Experience & Grade Criteria

• GS-03 (Entry): Meets basic requirements; closely supervised, limited scope assignments
• GS-04 (Mid-level): ~1 year of specialized NA experience or related medical experience OR 2 years of post-high-school coursework in a related field; demonstrates basic technical and therapeutic skills
• GS-05 (Full performance): ~1 year of progressively responsible assignments at GS-04 level OR bachelor's degree with health-related coursework; may serve as preceptor and handle more complex nursing needs

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in mental/behavioral health or psychiatric settings
• Demonstrated therapeutic communication and de-escalation skills
• Experience with basic monitoring equipment and specimen collection
• Ability to recognize and assist during emergent care situations while seeking further assistance
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred (if required by Confidential Client)

Physical & Work Requirements

• Visual acuity, clear speech, and keen hearing required to observe and communicate patient status
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, bend, lift, push/pull, and transfer patients as needed
• Potential exposure to infectious materials; use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required in isolation or invasive procedures
• May occasionally encounter combative patients; must maintain composure and follow safety protocols
• Must complete required annual employee health checks and testing as a condition of employment

Compensation & Employment Type

• Salary range: $42,116 - $62,882 per year (range provided by Confidential Client)
• Employment type: Full time
• Grade range: GS-03 to GS-05 (actual grade depends on education/experience and confidential client selection)
• Location: Jefferson Barracks, MO
