Role Overview
Confidential Client is hiring a Nursing Assistant (NA) for an inpatient mental health setting in West Palm Beach, FL. This role supports nursing staff by providing direct patient care, monitoring physical and emotional status, assisting with treatments and observations, and contributing to recovery plans under close supervision. Candidates may be hired at GS-3 through GS-5 depending on experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care and support activities of daily living for inpatient mental health patients.
- Observe and report changes in patients’ physical and emotional condition to supervisors in a timely manner.
- Assist with routine diagnostic and treatment procedures (for example: bladder scans, continuous passive motion devices, blood glucose monitoring, specimen collection).
- Use therapeutic communication techniques and work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.
- Assist licensed nursing staff with patient transfers, basic life support response, and behavior crisis interventions until further assistance arrives.
- Contribute to the completion of nurse care plans and document care accurately.
- Serve as a peer resource or preceptor at higher grades (GS-5 level responsibilities may include mentoring new NAs).
Qualifications
- United States citizenship (non-citizens may be appointed only when permitted by policy).
- Six months of general experience OR one year of post‑high school education with relevant coursework OR completion of a specialized NA training program may meet entry requirements (GS-3).
- English language proficiency in spoken and written English sufficient to perform job duties.
- Experience or education demonstrating patient care skills, therapeutic communication, and the ability to learn required NA tasks.
- Physical ability to meet duties consistent with occupational health requirements.
Grade-specific requirements (examples from qualification standard):
- GS-3 (entry level): Meets basic requirements; performs under close supervision.
- GS-4: One year of specialized NA experience OR two years of related post‑secondary education; demonstrates range of technical skills and therapeutic communication.
- GS-5 (full performance): One year of progressively responsible experience equivalent to GS-4 OR bachelor’s degree with relevant coursework; may serve as preceptor and handle more complex patient assignments.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Prior inpatient mental health or behavioral health experience.
- Familiarity with routine clinical equipment (bladder scanner, glucose monitor).
- Experience assisting in emergent situations and basic life support familiarity.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor or precept new staff (for GS-5 candidates).
Compensation & Employment Type
- Base pay range: $37,148 - $60,652 per year (range provided by Confidential Client).
- Employment type: Contract, Full time.
Location & Schedule
- Worksite: West Palm Beach, FL (on-site, inpatient mental health).
