Role Overview
Confidential Client (Healthcare & Nursing) is seeking a dependable Nursing Assistant to join their care team in Indianapolis, IN. This is a full-time position supporting direct patient care in clinical, long‑term care, or outpatient settings. Candidates may be hired at entry (GS-3), intermediate (GS-4), or full performance (GS-5) levels depending on experience and education.
Responsibilities
- Assist nursing staff with the full range of basic patient/resident care (bathing, feeding, mobility, ADLs).
- Contribute to completion of the nurse care plan and support patient recovery.
- Observe and report changes in patients' physical or emotional status to supervisors promptly.
- Use common diagnostic and treatment devices (e.g., bladder scanner, CPM devices, blood glucose monitors, specimen collection tools) safely and appropriately.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients/residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Serve as a preceptor/mentor for new Nursing Assistants when assigned; assist with orientation and assess practical clinical skills.
- Recognize and respond to emergent patient care situations (basic life support, bleeding control, behavior crisis management) while awaiting additional assistance.
Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is required (per the position’s hiring authority). Non-citizen appointment may be allowed only where permitted by law and employer policy.
- Experience/Education options (qualify at different GS levels):
- GS-3 (Entry Level): Meets basic requirements; typically closely supervised. No additional experience beyond basic entry criteria required.
- GS-4: One year of specialized experience as a Nursing Assistant or related medical field OR completion of 2 years of post‑secondary education with relevant coursework. Must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) relevant to nursing assistant duties.
- GS-5 (Full Performance): One year of progressively responsible experience equivalent to GS-4 OR a bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in health‑related coursework. Must demonstrate professional KSAs for the assignment.
- Demonstrated KSAs (examples):
- Ability to provide a range of patient care and contribute to the nursing care plan.
- Ability to observe and escalate changes in patient condition timely.
- Ability to safely use equipment and supplies for basic diagnostic/treatment procedures.
- Strong verbal communication with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to act as a preceptor and support orientation for new staff (for higher grades).
- Successful candidates may be required to complete agency-specific training or certifications prior to appointment.
Compensation & Schedule
- Employment type: Full time.
- Salary range (provided by source): $40,476 — $60,638 per year (actual pay depends on grade and qualifications).
- Standard clinical schedules may include varied shifts; final schedule set by Confidential Client.
Physical & Other Requirements
- Position includes direct patient care and may require standing for extended periods, lifting or assisting patients, and use of personal protective equipment.
