Position Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a dependable Nursing Assistant (GEC) to provide direct patient and resident care under nursing supervision. This full-time role follows federal qualification standards (GS levels) and offers a competitive pay range. Candidates should be able to work in fast-paced clinical settings and meet physical and documentation requirements.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide a range of direct patient/resident care (activities of daily living, mobility assistance, bathing, feeding, toileting).
  • Contribute to and support the nurse care plan to promote patient recovery.
  • Observe, document, and report changes in physical or emotional status to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Use basic diagnostic and treatment equipment (e.g., bladder scan, continuous passive motion device, blood glucose monitor, specimen collection).
  • Assist with safe patient transfers and positioning; follow infection control and isolation procedures when required.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • At higher (GS-5) assignments, act as a preceptor to orient and assess new Nursing Assistants.

Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship (per federal policy).
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English in accordance with applicable federal standards.
  • One of the following to meet minimum qualification:
    • Six months of general experience demonstrating ability to acquire NA skills; OR
    • One year of education beyond high school with courses related to nursing assistant duties; OR
    • Completion of an intensive, occupation-related training program of less than one year that prepares for NA work.
  • For GS-4: One year of specialized NA or related medical experience (or education equivalent) and demonstrated KSAs.
  • For GS-5: One year of progressively responsible experience equivalent to GS-4, or a relevant bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in healthcare-related coursework, plus demonstrated KSAs for full performance level.

KSAs / Competencies

  • Ability to assist in a full range of nursing care under RN/LVN direction.
  • Ability to observe patients’ physical and emotional condition and escalate concerns.
  • Proper use of equipment, materials and supplies for simple diagnostic/treatment procedures.
  • Effective interpersonal and therapeutic communication with patients, families, and healthcare team.
  • Ability to respond to emergent situations (basic life support awareness, bleeding control, behavioral crisis support).

Preferred Experience

  • Long-term care, rehabilitation, or hospice experience is preferred.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Frequent walking and standing (8–12 hours), repeated bending, and physically demanding duties.
  • Heavy lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling up to and over 45 pounds at times.
  • Use of both hands/fingers, both legs; rapid mental and muscular coordination.
  • Near and far vision requirements, depth perception, and color distinction.
  • May be exposed to infectious patients/materials and combative patients; must follow PPE and safety protocols.
  • Must be able to work effectively under stress and handle shifting priorities based on patient needs.

Compensation & Schedule

  • Pay range: $46,909 - $60,982 per year (GS pay range reflected in source).
  • Employment type: Full-time.

  • This role follows federal qualification standards for Nursing Assistants (GS-3, GS-4, GS-5). Candidates will be evaluated against grade-level criteria and required KSAs.
