What You’ll Do

The Nurse Resident – Critical Care participates in a 12-month clinical residency focused on pediatric critical care. This program develops foundational pediatric nursing knowledge, strengthens clinical judgment and critical thinking, and transitions new graduates into competent, team-oriented professional nurses who provide family-centered care in high-acuity settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to pediatric patients in critical care settings under residency supervision
  • Participate in structured clinical education, simulations, and competency assessments
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver patient- and family-centered care
  • Document care accurately and timely in the medical record
  • Attend required classroom, clinical, and orientation activities for the residency track
  • Complete program evaluations and demonstrate progressive development throughout the 12-month residency

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or entry-level Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required
  • Eligible for licensure to practice nursing in Texas (must obtain required licensure per state rules)
  • Must pass the NCLEX prior to the start of the residency
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 to be considered
  • Must be applying as a first professional nursing role (entry-level/new graduate)

Disqualifications & Important Restrictions

  • Applicants holding an associate degree with prior professional RN experience are ineligible for this residency track
  • Applicants who previously applied to the same nurse residency program are ineligible to reapply for the same track
  • Applicants must apply to only one residency track per cycle
  • Documents submitted after the stated deadline will not be considered

Cohorts & Timeline

  • February and April 2027 cohorts available (track availability varies by cohort)
  • Applicant eligibility for these cohorts: must graduate with a BSN between August and December 2026
  • Documents accepted beginning August 17, 2026; application deadline: September 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM Central Time
  • Virtual screening conversations (selected applicants): brief 10-minute sessions after initial review
  • Interview dates (anticipated): September 21–25, 2026
  • Residency start dates (anticipated): February 8, 2027 and April 5, 2027
  • Note: timeline dates are subject to change — review the residency instructions carefully

  • Complete the online application for your chosen specialty track and attach your professional resume and official transcript when prompted
  • Selected applicants will be invited to a brief virtual screening conversation with the Nurse Residency team
  • Applicants may only apply to one of the two available tracks per cycle — choose carefully
