Role Overview

Confidential Client is hiring an entry-level Nurse Resident to join a high-acuity, 38-bed medical-surgical unit specializing in Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Trauma. This position is part of a year-long Nurse Residency Program and offers rotating day / night schedules, weekend and holiday rotations, and hands-on clinical mentorship.


What You’ll Do

  • Provide direct patient care under RN supervision, using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
  • Support care for adult patients in Med‑Surg, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, and Trauma specialties.
  • Administer medications and treatments per policy and participate in interdisciplinary care planning.
  • Perform systematic patient and family assessments and develop culturally competent plans of care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and the care team; serve as a patient advocate.
  • Participate in mandatory education, unit-based competencies, and quality improvement activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate safe, organized care delivery for assigned patients and coordinate with assistive personnel.
  • Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and preventive measures.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, team-based practice and uphold professional standards and regulatory readiness.
  • Engage in clinical scholarship: reflect on practice, apply evidence-based practice (EBP), and pursue ongoing learning.
  • Meet unit and organizational policies, confidentiality, and standards of behavior.

Schedule & Location

  • Location: Burlington, VT
  • Shift: 24‑hour patient care environment with rotating schedules every 4 weeks (day or night)
  • Weekend and holiday rotation required
  • Employment Type: Full‑time

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. BSN preferred.
  • Licensure: Current license to practice professional nursing in the state of Vermont (or a multistate license valid in Vermont). Graduating nursing students must provide NCLEX registration documentation when eligible.
  • Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Experience: 0–1 years (new graduates welcome).
  • Skills: Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; basic computer literacy; unit-specific clinical skills demonstrated through competency validation.

Compensation

  • Pay Range: $37.00 - $37.00 per hour (base pay). Actual compensation may vary based on experience, certifications, shift differentials, and other lawful factors. Additional premium/OT pay may apply per policy.
