Program overview

This Nurse Residency Program (RN) is an immersive, evidence-based residency designed for new graduate RNs (RN I) to accelerate clinical skills, judgment, and professional growth in a large academic multispecialty and research hospital. Tracks available include Oncology and Med‑Surg. Residents receive structured mentorship, hands-on clinical experience, and opportunities to participate in quality and evidence-based projects.


What you’ll do

  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and the interprofessional care team to support and execute individualized plans of care.
  • Perform nursing assessments, assist with exams and treatments, document care, and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Provide patient and family education appropriate to learning needs and discharge planning.
  • Participate in unit initiatives, shared governance, and peer-to-peer accountability to support retention and engagement.
  • Contribute to quality, safety, and efficiency targets (e.g., reducing length of stay, reporting near misses).
  • Support evidence-based practice projects and adopt new care pathways or service-line implementations.
  • Progressively manage routine and emergent patient situations with guidance from experienced RNs and the healthcare team.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • New graduate or entry-level RN progressing toward independent practice (Novice to Advanced Beginner under Benner’s model).
  • Demonstrated progression in assessment, organizational, problem-solving, time-management, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Effective verbal and written English communication skills required for patient care and safety.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians, interprofessional teams, patients, and families while exercising professional judgment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and common office applications.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, feedback, and professional development.

Education & licensure

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Current Texas Board of Nursing RN license or Compact State RN license. Temporary Texas RN license acceptable if full Texas RN license is obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 7 days of hire.
