What You’ll Do
Confidential Client’s Safety Analysis Models group is seeking a Nuclear Engineer I or II to support safety analyses and thermal-hydraulic simulations for pressurized water reactors (PWRs). This role contributes to non-LOCA UFSAR Chapter 15 analyses, methodology maintenance, licensing support, and technical reporting.
- Perform complex transient thermal-hydraulic simulations using RETRAN-3D, VIPRE-01, and equivalent tools with NRC-approved models and methods
- Prepare clear, accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation for internal and regulatory use
- Develop, qualify, and maintain in-house codes and analysis methodologies used in safety analysis
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams, industry partners, vendors, and regulatory personnel
- Support reload core safety analysis, Emergency Operating Facility (EOF) technical support, and reload licensing activities
- Contribute to Licensing Amendment Requests (LAR) and 50.59 evaluations as needed
- Plan and deliver high-quality work products on schedules that support reload licensing and project commitments
Minimum Qualifications
Nuclear Engineer I
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or Master's in Engineering in lieu of B.S.)
- 0–2 years of engineering experience
Nuclear Engineer II
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or Master's in Engineering in lieu of B.S.)
- 2–4 years of engineering experience
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
Note: Candidates must meet the minimum ANSI requirements specified in the applicable Nuclear Operating Fleet qualification procedure.
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. in Nuclear Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Experience with safety analysis codes (RETRAN, VIPRE, or equivalents)
- Experience with nuclear fuel and PWR safety/design analyses
- Familiarity with PWR systems and thermal-hydraulic calculations (heat transfer, flow modeling, single failure analysis, NPSH, etc.)
- Experience supporting License Amendment Requests and 50.59 evaluations
- Unix/Linux workstation experience and programming (FORTRAN, Python, VBA, etc.)
- Utility industry experience
Work Arrangement & Travel
- Employment Type: Full-time, hybrid (after onboarding)
- Hybrid expectation: Employees will work both remote and on-site; must live within a reasonable commute (not greater than 50 miles one-way) to their assigned facility and be available to be on-site an average of 3 full workdays per regular work week. Candidates must relocate to the greater Charlotte area.
- Typical schedule: Flexible — often four 10-hour days with a mix of on-site and remote days
- Travel: Approximately 5–15% for other sites, industry meetings, or conferences
- Relocation assistance: Provided as applicable
Additional Requirements
- Ability to achieve Unescorted Access/Security clearance at nuclear sites
- Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities may require callouts and on-call rotations; employees must be Fit for Duty
- In cases where a candidate lacks 1 year of nuclear experience, initial work may be performed under oversight until fully qualified
- This position is NOT eligible for visa sponsorship — candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. now and in the future
Compensation
- Estimated annual pay (as shown in source posting): $120,916 (estimated)
