Role overview

Confidential Client (Consultancy) is hiring a Noise Specialist to support noise and vibration analyses for development and transportation projects across California. This is a remote-friendly, full-time role based out of the Irvine / Southern California region with occasional office or field visits as needed. The position is open to entry-level candidates and professionals with 1–3 years of relevant experience.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with data collection and impact analysis for noise and vibration projects.
• Quantify construction, traffic, and operational noise (e.g., HVAC, emergency generators) and construction vibration using models and spreadsheets.
• Support senior noise staff in preparing written technical noise reports for transportation, industrial, commercial development, and construction projects (primarily under CEQA and NEPA).
• Lead noise and vibration impact analyses for land‑use, infrastructure, and roadway projects where appropriate.
• Research and interpret local noise ordinances and general plan policies to identify applicable thresholds for analyses across jurisdictions.
• Coordinate and conduct field work using a variety of noise meters and instrumentation.
• Help prepare Noise Study Reports (NSR) and Noise Abatement Decision Reports (NADR) consistent with 23 CFR 772 and the Caltrans Traffic Noise Analysis Protocol.
• Solve quantitative and qualitative problems and present findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
• Interact effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, clients, and regulatory stakeholders.

What You Need to Have

• Bachelor’s degree in acoustics, physics, engineering, environmental science, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and experience in noise analysis.
• Ability to perform outdoor fieldwork and occasional lifting/carrying up to 30 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally for fieldwork and meetings; occasional overnight travel may be required.

Desired Qualifications

• 0–3 years preparing CEQA/NEPA analyses for resource topics; experience specifically with noise and vibration analyses preferred.
• Experience developing and maintaining project schedules.
• Strong quantitative and/or modeling skills.
• Familiarity with TNM, SoundPLAN, or similar noise‑modeling software.
• General understanding of NEPA and CEQA guidelines.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate with project managers and senior noise/transportation staff.

Location & Compensation

• Work arrangement: Remote (California-based preferred); position is associated with the Irvine, CA office for occasional in-person meetings and training.
• Employment type: Full time.
• Pay range (full-time basis): $60,967 — $103,643 (annual). Final salary depends on experience, skills, location, and other factors.
