Overview
Confidential Client is seeking a Night Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Therapist I) to join their clinical team in New Haven, CT. This is a night-shift role that supports inpatient respiratory care across age groups. New graduates are welcome — the position is entry-level-friendly with opportunities to develop critical-care and neonatal skills.
Compensation highlights
- Estimated pay: $86,087 per year (estimated)
- $20,000 sign‑on bonus available
- Night shift; schedule includes every 3rd weekend
What You’ll Do / Key Responsibilities
You will provide assessment, treatment, education and documentation of respiratory care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. Key responsibilities include:
- Clinical application of respiratory care: deliver age‑appropriate respiratory treatments and therapies.
- Patient assessment: review charts, interview patients, perform physical exams, and interpret blood gases and x‑rays.
- Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures such as PPD, overnight oximetry, peak flow, arterial puncture, and sputum induction.
- ABG collection and interpretation; weaning assessment and ventilator management support as required.
- Documentation: accurately record all care in the electronic medical record (ABGs, assessments, weaning parameters, therapies).
- Handoffs & communication: give and receive reports using SBAR; provide clear, concise clinical handovers.
- Collaboration: work closely with nurses, physicians, and other members of the care team; participate in quality‑improvement efforts.
- Professional development: maintain competency through continuing education, in‑services, and professional memberships.
Qualifications
Education & licensure
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program (CoARC‑approved) required.
- Current active Connecticut Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license required.
- NBRC Registry examination eligibility required; NBRC registration preferred.
- BS degree preferred but not required.
Experience
- Entry‑level candidates/new grads accepted.
- Experience or clinical rotations in critical care or neonatal environments is a plus.
Skills & attributes
- Competent with respiratory care equipment and basic respiratory procedures.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Good interpersonal skills and teamwork orientation.
- Computer literate (experience with electronic medical records).
