Summary

Confidential Client is seeking a Network Engineer 1 to support multi-site LAN/WAN environments. This is a contract, fully onsite role based in Anaheim, CA. The position focuses on day-to-day network operations, troubleshooting, security basics, and supporting changes under direction of more senior engineers.


What You’ll Do

  • Support daily operations of multi-site LAN/WAN infrastructure within your assigned span of control.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve network issues using packet captures, traceroute, ping, SNMP tools and log analysis.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining routing, switching, and network security configurations.
  • Participate in planning, testing, and deploying network configuration changes.
  • Document network diagrams, IP addressing plans, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support incident response and root-cause analysis for network-related events.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and, when required, customers about network status, incidents, and planned changes.
  • Escalate complex issues to senior engineers with clear technical context and diagnostic data.
  • Follow established change-management and security policies.

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Solid understanding of OSI model and TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with dynamic routing concepts (e.g., OSPF, BGP, EIGRP or similar).
  • IP addressing and subnetting experience.
  • Knowledge of common network topologies (star, mesh, hub-and-spoke).
  • Basic network and physical security principles.
  • Understanding of authentication/authorization methods (RADIUS, TACACS+, 802.1X).
  • Exposure to encryption fundamentals and secure protocols.
  • Experience with firewalls, VPNs (remote access and site-to-site), and wireless security concepts.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desired Tools / Platform Experience

Experience with one or more of the following is desirable:

  • Cisco routing and switching platforms
  • Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewalls (NGFW)
  • Aruba ClearPass or similar network access control (NAC) solutions

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field AND at least 2+ years of technical experience supporting network infrastructure; OR
  • 4+ years of hands-on Network Engineering support experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, Network+, PCNSE, Aruba) are a plus but not required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay range: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour. Individual compensation within this range depends on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
