About the Role

Confidential Client is working to accelerate the transition to fusion energy by combining deep research, engineering talent, and new technologies to design and build commercially viable fusion power systems. The Blanket System team is scaling experimental efforts and needs an entry-level Molten Salt Engineer to support molten-salt R&D and experimental testing operations.

In this role you will begin by executing established standard operating procedures (SOPs), performing routine materials and device testing in molten salts, and maintaining quality controls. As you gain experience, you will help design experiments and test cells, build lab fixtures, and lead projects related to materials corrosion and blanket health monitoring.

What You’ll Do

• Perform corrosion testing of novel materials in molten salts
• Conduct device testing in molten salts to collect performance statistics
• Design and build new test cells and hardware for molten salt R&D
• Assist with general lab maintenance and upkeep
• Write, update, and follow SOPs for safe handling of hazardous chemicals, including fluoride salts (FLiBe)

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
• 0–2 years of professional experience
• Experience with R&D work in a chemical or engineering laboratory
• Familiarity with safety systems for hazardous chemicals
• Fast learner with the ability to pick up new skills and subject matter quickly
• Comfortable working in multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and technical staff
• Clear communicator with the ability to express and critique ideas
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; creative approach to new problems

Preferred / Bonus Skills

• High-temperature chemistry experience
• Prior work with molten salts
• Electrochemistry
• Ceramics
• Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools for data analysis
• Experience building and commissioning lab equipment
• CAD software experience

Must-have Requirements

• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to perform activities such as sitting, typing, standing, stooping, or climbing for extended periods
• Dedication to safety when mitigating industrial hazards (heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, cryogenics)
• Willingness to travel or work nights/weekends/on-call on occasion

• $70,000 - $120,000 a year (range reflects new hire salaries across US locations; final offer depends on level, experience, and location)
