Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Molecular Technologist Trainee to join their genetics / molecular diagnostics lab in Iselin, NJ. This hands-on training role focuses on nucleic acid extraction, sample processing, and supporting downstream molecular assays. Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Location: 485F Route 1 South, Suite 110, Iselin, NJ 08830.
What You’ll Do
- Responsible for specimen handling and processing with emphasis on nucleic acid extractions following pre-analytic and analytic procedures.
- Prepare for and execute nucleic acid extraction workflows using manual methods and/or automated instrumentation.
- Deliver high-quality purified nucleic acids for downstream assays (e.g., NGS workflows).
- Follow written procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for correct sample handling.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance and calibrations on laboratory instruments.
- Record project and sample information, protocols, and experimental details in the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Perform established quality control procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain records showing proficiency testing samples are handled the same as patient specimens.
- Identify and document problems that may affect test performance and escalate to supervisors as needed.
- Document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
- Assist with orientation and training of new team members.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years laboratory experience.
- 1+ years molecular laboratory experience.
- Experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows.
Additional Job Standards
- Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable handling biological specimens and accurately identifying samples.
- High attention to detail with strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and thoroughly follow up on assignments.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.
- Willingness to work in a collaborative, flexible lab environment.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $25.19 – $30.00 per hour. All offers will be based on skills, experience, applicable degrees/certifications, internal equity, and market data.
