What You’ll Do

As a Modernization Software Engineer on Confidential Client’s cloud data team, you’ll design and deliver scalable analytics and ML solutions using BigQuery, BigQuery ML, and Python. You will define architecture patterns, lead best practices for data pipelines and model development, and help teams implement secure, high-performance data platforms that drive business value.

• Design end-to-end cloud data architectures leveraging BigQuery and BigQuery ML to support reporting, analytics, and predictive modeling.
• Build reusable Python-based feature engineering and pipeline patterns for BigQuery ML workflows.
• Optimize BigQuery schemas and queries through partitioning, clustering, and cost-control strategies.
• Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and engineers to translate analytics requirements into technical blueprints.
• Create architecture documentation, solution diagrams, and runbooks that describe data flows, security controls, and integration points.
• Define standards for ingestion, transformation, and storage to ensure reliability, auditability, and consistent data quality.
• Guide model selection, training, validation, deployment, and monitoring practices for BigQuery ML solutions.
• Embed security and compliance (encryption, access controls, governance) into all data platform designs.
• Support hybrid-team collaboration (onsite + remote) through clear processes, code reviews, and design validation (day shift).

What We’re Looking For

Required qualifications

• Proven experience designing cloud data architectures using BigQuery (or equivalent cloud data warehouse).
• Hands-on experience developing machine learning workflows with BigQuery ML and Python-based feature pipelines.
• Strong SQL and BigQuery query optimization experience (partitioning, clustering, cost controls).
• Experience working with data engineers, data scientists, and product owners to deliver analytics solutions.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Strong documentation, communication, and team leadership skills for hybrid work environments.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience creating production ML monitoring and governance practices.
• Familiarity with cloud security controls, data governance frameworks, and compliance requirements.
• Experience with orchestration tools or workflow frameworks that integrate Python pipelines and BigQuery.

Compensation & Benefits

• Annual base salary: $120,000 — $155,500 (depending on experience and qualifications).
• Eligible for Confidential Client’s discretionary annual incentive program (subject to plan terms).
• Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, life insurance; paid time off and holidays; 401(k) options; disability coverage; paid parental leave; and employee stock purchase or similar programs (subject to eligibility).
