The Role

Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level to early-career Metallurgy Engineer to join their Technical Operations team in SoMa, CA. This hands-on role supports aircraft maintenance and component serviceability through metallurgical analysis, heat treatment, welding evaluation, and lab oversight (including metallography and SEM). The position is full-time and ideal for candidates with a degree in metallurgy, materials science, chemical engineering, or equivalent aviation maintenance experience and 0–5 years of practical exposure.

What You’ll Do

• Study, analyze, and solve problems related to aircraft component materials, maintenance, repair, and performance.
• Perform metallographic sample preparation and microstructure analysis.
• Plan and implement heat treatment and welding evaluations; recommend corrective actions.
• Author, design, and manage technical work scopes and reports for maintenance and repair activities.
• Provide on-site technical support for shop, line, and base operations; simplify technical findings for non-technical stakeholders.
• Interface with internal teams and external organizations (OEMs, OSVs) on material, engine, and component issues.
• Support regulatory compliance and documentation; analyze and implement applicable FAA and industry requirements.
• Coordinate projects, cost/benefit analyses, implementation plans, and obtain approvals as required.
• Oversee metallographic and SEM labs and related testing activities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent aviation maintenance experience.
• 0 to 5 years of relevant experience.
• Familiarity with material science and metallurgy, including metallographic techniques, microstructure analysis, heat treatment, and welding.
• Working knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, forging, plating, and composites.
• Professional report writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced maintenance environment and meet time-critical return-to-service deliverables.
• Clear, concise communication skills and ability to translate complex technical issues for non-technical audiences.
• Able to accept mentoring and work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced coursework or degree combinations (Metallurgy/Materials plus Mechanical, Aerospace, or Chemical Engineering).
• Prior airline, aerospace, or aircraft maintenance experience.
• Familiarity with ATA chapters relevant to structures and systems (examples: ATA 21, 25, 52, 53, 54, 55, 57, 72).
• Working knowledge of Boeing and Airbus SRMs, SBs, and other OEM documentation.
• Experience with NAA, NTSB, or OEM joint investigations.
• Understanding of wet and dry analytical chemistry techniques.
• High proficiency with analytical instrumentation such as scanning electron microscopes (SEM).

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay range: $83,695.00 to $109,004.00 per year (range dependent on experience, education, and skills).
• Position may be eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive awards.
