What You’ll Do

Confidential Client expects the Mental Health Clinician II to provide therapeutic patient care, maintain a safe and therapeutic milieu, and serve as an active member of the interdisciplinary treatment team. Typical duties include:

• Provide therapeutic one-on-one care and facilitate psycho-educational and skill-building groups.
• Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships while modeling professional boundaries.
• Observe, document, and report patient behavior, reactions to medications, and clinical changes.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) as appropriate and promote dignity and privacy.
• Escort and transport patients for on-site and community appointments when required.
• Serve as a rover/internal float to support multiple treatment units as needed.
• Conduct safety checks, monitor the environment, and remove or report unsafe items/conditions.
• Use de-escalation and approved intervention techniques (e.g., Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Verbal Defense & Influence (VDI)) to manage aggressive or escalating behavior.
• Participate in treatment planning, contribute clinical input, and advocate for patient interests.
• Document patient care and support continuity of care through effective communication with nursing and treatment teams.
• Perform other duties assigned that support departmental mission and patient care priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must clearly document qualifying experience on their application. Minimum requirements:

• Four (4) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the duties of this position OR
• A combination of education and related experience that equals four (4) years (e.g., Bachelor’s degree may substitute on a year-for-year basis).

Preferred qualifications and experience (not required but strongly desired):

• Prior experience as a Mental Health Clinician I within a state mental health institute or 1+ years of professional inpatient psychiatric experience in a locked/secure setting.
• Experience developing and leading treatment groups.
• Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and recovery-oriented practices.
• College or university education in nursing, psychology, sociology, human services, or related field.
