What You’ll Do
This hospital laboratory role requires accurate specimen handling, testing, and timely reporting of patient results. Typical duties include:
- Perform testing of specimens according to established laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Perform routine phlebotomy procedures while following patient identification and safety protocols.
- Collect, process, and prepare specimens for routine and specialized testing.
- Coordinate send-out testing (reference labs, flow cytometry, cytology, bone marrow, chromosome analysis, pathology).
- Investigate and document unacceptable specimens and other pre-analytical issues.
- Review and verify laboratory results prior to reporting; report STAT/critical/abnormal results per policy.
- Perform and evaluate quality control (QC) procedures; troubleshoot and document out-of-range QC.
- Perform routine analyzer maintenance and instrument calibrations as required.
- Manage reagents, QC materials, and inventory to support ongoing testing.
- Organize daily workload to meet turnaround expectations.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and lab equipment.
- Communicate effectively with patients, lab colleagues, clinical staff, and other departments.
- Work independently while escalating issues appropriately.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, or related scientific field.
- Current certification/registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist/Medical Technologist (MLS/MT) via ASCP or AMT.
- Minimum of one year of relevant clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Strong laboratory science and technical skills; experience with clinical laboratory instrumentation.
- Phlebotomy experience and strong patient/customer service skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication, prioritization, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work day and evening shifts; flexibility for occasional weekend scheduling as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
- $30–$37 per hour (hourly range)
