Role overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Medical Technologist I for the Chemistry Lab (Day shift, 40 hours/week). This is an entry-level, full-time contract opportunity based in Boston, MA. The role performs moderate and high-complexity clinical laboratory testing under CLIA ’88, supports quality control and instrument maintenance, and helps ensure timely and accurate patient results.


Key responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret moderate and high-complexity chemistry laboratory tests following CLIA guidelines.
  • Prioritize STAT and routine samples to meet turnaround-time requirements.
  • Verify specimen identification, label accuracy, and sample appropriateness for requested tests.
  • Accession specimens and aliquot/process per standard operating procedures.
  • Perform instrument and equipment maintenance and document issues for supervisory review.
  • Execute QC procedures, assess QC data, and document results.
  • Review and investigate patient test results, resolve discrepancies, and document follow-up testing.
  • Notify appropriate personnel of Critical Alert Values and complete required documentation in the LIS.
  • Maintain accurate, legible records and ensure proper reagent/lot documentation.
  • Support cross-training, teach students/trainees, and participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Follow infection control, safety policies, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Assist other laboratory sections as needed and communicate testing/status updates to colleagues and supervisors.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related applied science OR a Bachelor’s degree in another discipline plus an Associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Technician with coursework meeting CAP scientific requirements.
  • Entry-level candidates accepted; required clinical internship or equivalent supervised laboratory training preferred.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and laboratory specimen handling.
  • Knowledge of CLIA-defined testing complexity, laboratory QC, and regulatory compliance (JC, CAP, FDA, AABB).
  • Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity for specimen prep, and basic computer/LIS skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication in English for interactions with clinicians and lab staff.

Preferred / certifications

  • Certification from ASCP, NCA, AMT, AAB, or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated competency in chemistry analyzers and LIS functions a plus.
  • Interest in continuing education and maintaining annual competencies.

Compensation & benefits

  • Estimated pay range: $26.92 – $37.74 per hour.
  • Pay range is based on Boston-area data and the minimum qualifications; final pay considers education, experience, certifications, and internal equity.
