Medical Supply Technician ( Sterile Processing)
The Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) is responsible for decontaminating, sterilizing, inspecting, assembling, and preparing reusable medical equipment and instrument sets for use in clinical and operating room settings. This role ensures adherence to safety and sterility standards, operates sterilization equipment, and supports surgical case preparation within a healthcare environment, primarily at Confidential Client. The position requires knowledge of medical terminology, universal precautions, and proficiency with specialized software and equipment to maintain high standards of patient care and safety.

What You’ll Do
This role supports sterile processing and reusable medical equipment (RME) reprocessing for a confidential client in Healthcare & Nursing. You will follow established procedures to decontaminate, inspect, assemble, sterilize, store, and distribute instrumentation and supplies to clinical units.
- Perform decontamination, cleaning, inspection, packaging, labeling, and sterilization of instruments and medical devices
- Operate sterilizers and reprocessing equipment (steam, Sterrad, Steris, ETO, high-level scope reprocessor)
- Assemble basic and specialty instrument sets and prepare operating room case carts per surgical schedule
- Conduct biological and chemical monitoring and document sterility assurance activities
- Use instrument tracking and inventory systems (e.g., CENSITRAC) and maintain accurate records
- Follow manufacturers’ instructions for use (IFUs) and maintain compliance with local and federal infection control policies
Responsibilities
- Follow universal precautions and standard infection control procedures to prevent cross-contamination
- Inspect packages and instruments for sterilization indicators and functional integrity
- Load, operate, and unload sterilization equipment safely, including handling hot items with insulated PPE
- Prepare and distribute sterile supplies to clinical areas and maintain proper storage conditions
- Maintain accurate documentation of reprocessing activities and monitoring results
- Communicate clearly with surgical and clinical teams about instrument availability and status
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship (per client policy)
- Proficiency in spoken and written English
- Six months of relevant experience OR one year of education above high school with at least 6 semester hours in healthcare-related courses (sterile processing, nursing assistant, surgical tech, hospital corpsman, etc.)
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of sterilization and cleaning equipment, surgical instruments, medical terminology, and sterility principles
- Ability to read, follow, and interpret written instructions and procedures
- Ability to stand and walk for the workday, frequently bend and lift up to ~25 lbs, and perform fine manual dexterity tasks
- Comfortable working in clinical settings that may expose you to biohazards, chemicals, and hazardous medications; able to use required PPE
Preferred Qualifications
- CRCST, CER, or CIS certification preferred
- Previous sterile processing experience in a hospital or healthcare setting (decontamination, inspection, packaging, assembly, sterilization, storage, distribution)
- Experience with biological/chemical monitoring and instrument tracking systems (CENSITRAC or similar)
- Familiarity with sterilizers such as Sterrad, Steris, ETO and high-level disinfecting scope reprocessors
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Work performed across decontamination, preparation, and sterile supply areas; may be exposed to hot/cold environments and strong odors
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and manual handling of instruments and carts
- Use of PPE (gloves, gowns, hair covers, shoe covers); may work around sterilizing gases and hazardous materials
- No remote work — on-site presence is required
Compensation & Schedule
- Full-time position
- Salary range: $39,384 - $70,120 per year (range provided by the confidential client)
- Grade range: entry-level to full performance (GS-03 to GS-06 equivalent in client framework)
