What You’ll Do

  • Analyze, abstract, maintain, extract and compile information from patient health records to ensure accuracy, completeness, timeliness and compliance with documentation guidelines.
  • Create and monitor reports and metrics related to health record quality and delinquency.
  • Monitor transcription and medical speech-recognition workflows and resolve discrepancies.
  • Notify clinical providers and follow up on incomplete or inconsistent health record documentation.
  • Coordinate or perform health record review activities and support audits or quality-improvement projects.
  • Use electronic health record (EHR) systems and office software (e.g., Microsoft Excel) to locate, analyze, and record documentation trends.
  • Prioritize tasks to meet required timeframes and work independently under general supervision.

Qualifications

Basic requirements (candidates must meet one of the following):

  • United States Citizenship required (appointments of non-citizens may only occur when permitted by policy).
  • English language proficiency sufficient for written and verbal communication.
  • Experience option: One year of creditable experience demonstrating knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and a general understanding of health records (six months of that experience must provide KSAs needed for MRT/HIT work).
  • Education option: An associate degree (or related degree with minimum required semester hours) in health information technology/health information management or equivalent coursework (e.g., medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, legal aspects of health care, introduction to health records).
  • Experience/education combinations that equal the required qualifications are acceptable.
  • Military training substitutions: Certain medical/hospital corpsman or allied health training completed under U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. Maritime Service supervision may substitute for up to six months of experience where documented.
  • Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
    • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
    • Ability to utilize health information technology and office applications (e.g., Excel, EHRs, delinquency tracking software).
    • Knowledge of health record documentation guidelines and industry standards.
    • Ability to manage priorities and complete duties within required timeframes.
    • Ability to apply medical terminology and anatomy knowledge to interpret record content.
    • Skill in analyzing records for compliance, accuracy, and sufficiency and taking appropriate corrective actions.

Note: The position’s full performance level in the originating qualification standard is GS-7; actual selection grade may range from GS-04 to GS-07 depending on experience and education.


Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Hands-on experience with electronic health record systems and record-review workflows.
  • Demonstrated use of Microsoft Excel for reporting or tracking.
  • Experience producing or reviewing documentation for regulatory/compliance standards and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills when investigating record discrepancies.

Compensation & Employment Type

  • Pay range: $36,409 - $65,599 per year (provided by the client).
  • Employment type: Contract, Full time.
  • Actual grade/level and pay may vary based on candidate qualifications and the hiring manager’s selection.

  • Location: Cape Coral, FL (on-site).
  • This is a contractor role supporting our confidential client’s Healthcare & Nursing operations.
