What You’ll Do

This role supports the Central Laboratory as a Medical Lab Scientist (PRN/Part-time). Working under standard laboratory policies and procedures you will:

• Perform a wide variety of laboratory tests on blood, tissue and other body fluids across departments such as Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology and Transfusion.
• Analyze and interpret results, document findings, and deliver timely, accurate data to clinicians.
• Operate, maintain and troubleshoot laboratory analyzers and equipment; perform calibrations and routine maintenance.
• Implement and monitor quality control and assurance processes (proficiency testing, record review).
• Prepare, collect and handle biological samples following protocols to prevent contamination and ensure specimen integrity.
• Record and report test results in laboratory systems; escalate critical or unusual findings as appropriate.
• Collaborate with healthcare teams to support patient diagnosis and treatment decisions.
• Maintain a safe, compliant lab environment and follow infection control and safety procedures.

Qualifications

Registered Medical Lab Scientist (Registered MLS) — pay range shown: $35.60–$54.93 / hour (dependent on experience)

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory/medical technology or a related chemical/physical/biological science from an accredited institution, OR completion of qualified MLS coursework and internship with eligibility to sit for the BOC (if not yet certified, certification must be completed within 6 months of hire).
• Required: ASCP (or equivalent) certification for Medical Technologist/MLS (maintain certification while in role).
• Required: Flexibility to work variable shifts, which may include nights, weekends, holidays and on-call as needed.
• Required where applicable: Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers at sites that require it.
• Foreign-educated applicants: acceptable foreign transcript evaluation required.

Unregistered Medical Lab Scientist — pay range shown: $29.43–$45.39 / hour (dependent on experience)

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in clinical laboratory/medical technology science or equivalent (degree verification required). Candidates pursuing degree must have degree completed within allowed timeline per CLIA requirements.
• Preferred: 1 year laboratory experience; military training may substitute for degree in some cases.
• Required: Flexibility for variable shifts (nights/weekends/holidays/on-call).

• This posting considers both Registered and Unregistered MLS candidates; final role assignment depends on credentials and certification status.

Compensation & Benefits

• Registered MLS: $35.60–$54.93 per hour (based on experience).
• Unregistered MLS: $29.43–$45.39 per hour (based on experience).

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

• Visual acuity to read labels and instruments; frequent verbal communication with clinical staff.
• Manual dexterity for precise instrument handling and specimen preparation; frequent computer use.
• Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move supplies/equipment, and assist with transporting items.
• Work in clinical lab setting with exposure to biological materials — strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols is required.

• Work Location: Central Laboratory — Murray, UT (Murray, UT).
• Schedule: PRN / Part-time with variable shifts. Scheduled weekly hours may be 0 (on-call/PRN); flexibility to cover nights, weekends, holidays and on-call shifts is required.
• Department: Microbiology (role may rotate into other lab departments as operational needs require).
