Mechanical Insulation Estimator

Position Overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Insulation Estimator to support preconstruction and estimating activities for projects in the Energy, Oil & Gas industry. The role is based in Fort Sam Houston, TX and is focused on insulation takeoffs, cost estimating, vendor and subcontractor coordination, and hand-off to operations. This is a full-time, on-site position.
What You’ll Do
- Perform quantitative takeoffs and prepare accurate material and labor estimates for mechanical insulation scopes.
- Establish labor productivities and apply wage/benefit schedules to estimates.
- Source and maintain relationships with local vendors to obtain competitive material and equipment pricing.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor pricing for work outside the self-performing scope.
- Participate in internal bid reviews and collaborate with project teams to refine scope and pricing.
- Assess backlog, risk, and margin considerations to develop competitive, risk-adjusted proposals.
- Support customer alignment by clarifying scope, answering questions, and building positive client relationships.
- Hand off secured projects to Operations and assist with change orders and project transitions.
- Use estimating and takeoff software and support cross-product-line estimating activities.
Qualifications (Minimum / Basic Requirements)
- Strong ability to read, understand, and interpret specifications and drawings for mechanical insulation scopes.
- Proven ability to build and maintain customer relationships; excellent communication and customer service skills.
- High attention to detail and strong cost-analysis skills.
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple estimate tasks.
- Ability to interpret schedules for sequencing and durations relevant to estimating.
- Proficiency with takeoff & estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff, BuzzBID, Quickbid, and/or MIKE.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office and industry tools such as BlueBeam Revu, Procore, or PlanSwift.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, or related discipline.
- 2–4 years of estimating experience on construction projects (preferred).
- Experience estimating or managing HVAC pipe and duct insulation scopes.
- Local to the San Antonio / Fort Sam Houston metro area is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $75,100–$101,000 annual base pay, plus a non-guaranteed annualized bonus program.
