Role Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Mechanical Hardware Engineer to lead mechanical design and development for electronic control modules (ECUs) used in next‑generation vehicles. This is a full‑time, hybrid role based in Warren, MI. Estimated compensation: $103,801 per year (estimated). The position requires in‑office collaboration at a Metro Detroit location a minimum of three days per week (typically Tues/Wed/Thurs) or as dictated by the business.


What You’ll Do

  • Execute mechanical design and development of ECUs and related electronics modules to meet program schedules and launch targets.
  • Own module mechanical hardware releases and, in some cases, related software releases.
  • Design mechanical components including castings, injection moldings, stampings, seals, PCBA mounts, connector interfaces, and fastening systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations, GD&T, and tolerance stack analyses.
  • Create and review 3D CAD and 2D drawings; lead CAD reviews with cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Develop analysis and test plans; run proof‑of‑concept tests and analyze results.
  • Lead prototyping and validation testing; interpret test data and refine mechanical designs.
  • Work closely with electrical engineers and PCBA designers to integrate electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Track validation documentation and act as module owner for assigned components.
  • Support semiconductor selection and collaborate with Tier‑1 suppliers to align on design and development cycles.
  • Contribute to virtualization approaches that accelerate and de‑risk development.
  • Communicate design progress, risks, and mitigations to stakeholders and customers.
  • Drive mechanical design strategy across programs and maintain strong project organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
  • Strong fundamentals in solid mechanics, materials, heat transfer, mechanism design, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with tolerance analysis and GD&T.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (experience with NX and Teamcenter is a plus).
  • Experience designing mechanical enclosures and mounts for PCBAs or electronic assemblies.
  • Knowledge of thermal solutions for electronics and vibrational/structural analysis.
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5‑2009 dimensioning & tolerancing standards.
  • Hands‑on experience collaborating with electronics manufacturers or Tier‑1 suppliers.
  • Prior internships, co‑op experience, or practical lab/prototyping experience.

Location & Work Arrangement

  • Location: Warren, MI (Metro Detroit).
  • Work model: Hybrid — in‑office collaboration at a Metro Detroit site at least three days per week (typical schedule: Tues/Wed/Thurs) or as required by the business.
