Contract & Role Details

This is a 12-month W-2 contract role based in San Jose, CA.

• Role: Mechanical Engineering Technician (Entry level)
• Location: San Jose, CA (on-site)
• Duration: 12 months
• Schedule: 1st Shift, 40 hours/week
• Pay: $20–25 / hour (W-2)
• Employment type: Contract (W-2) — candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S. (U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or individuals with valid work authorization such as EAD/OPT/CPT)

What You’ll Do (Primary Responsibilities)

• Conduct production testing of assembled flow cytometers and related medical device products.
• Perform system integration and testing across electronic, mechanical, optical, and fluidic subsystems.
• Troubleshoot at the system and subassembly level to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Optimize instruments after final assembly (laser alignment, pressure and electrical adjustments, etc.).
• Perform final production testing and inspection to ensure units meet performance specifications.
• Record and compare test results versus specifications; generate required documentation to complete the Device History Record (DHR).
• Replace or repair defective components or assemblies and process appropriate paperwork.
• Collaborate with engineers, QA, technicians, and production personnel to resolve issues and improve processes.
• Provide regular feedback on production and test methods to improve quality and operational efficiency.
• Support project teams focused on quality improvement, cost reduction, cycle time reduction, reliability, and new product introduction.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and comply with EH&S and regulatory procedures.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, dexterity, and hand/eye coordination; able to reach, bend, and lift up to 35 lbs regularly.
• Familiarity with test equipment (DVMs, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and general electronic test practices.
• Proficient with standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable with data entry and test documentation.
• Ability to read and understand assembly instructions, work orders, SOPs, Bills of Materials, and test procedures.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; comfortable working in a team environment.
• Basic math skills (fractions, percentages, ratios) and familiarity with probability/statistics concepts.
• Exposure to ISO 9000 and cGMP (21 CFR Part 820) preferred.

Desirable / Nice-to-Have Qualifications

• Experience in medical device manufacturing or production test environments.
• Experience with laser-based optical systems, fluidic systems, and analog/digital circuitry troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with LEAN manufacturing, Six Sigma tools, or Demand Flow Technology (DFT).
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with Visio and presentation tools.
• Strong experience with logic analyzers and oscilloscopes.
• Experience generating and maintaining Device History Records (DHRs) and production documentation.
