Overview
This opportunity is for a Mechanical Engineering New Graduate to join a confidential client’s Raleigh, NC engineering consulting team focused on building systems (MEP) for education, municipal, and other vertical building projects. This entry-level, full-time role emphasizes hands-on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design, collaboration with senior engineers, and professional development through mentorship and structured training.
What You’ll Do
- Assist in engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of mechanical systems for vertical building projects.
- Support design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Produce detailed designs, specifications, and calculations using engineering tools and software in accordance with codes and firm standards.
- Communicate with clients to gather requirements and convey technical information clearly.
- Maintain professional client relationships and document design decisions.
- Support project planning, scheduling, documentation, and quality control as part of a project team.
- Analyze low- to medium-complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior staff on practical solutions.
- Participate in internal quality control and ensure deliverables meet industry and client standards.
- Stay current with industry trends, energy-efficiency goals (e.g., MEP2050 / AIA2030), and emerging technologies.
- Prioritize safety and help identify and mitigate risks associated with mechanical systems.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including architects, electrical engineers, and project managers while managing project budgets.
What You’ll Bring
Required
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and concepts for producing technical plans and specifications.
- Understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as applied to HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Familiarity with industry-standard engineering software and HVAC load calculation tools.
- Basic BIM software knowledge.
- Strong technical, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and eagerness to learn.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to travel up to 5% (occasional overnight).
Preferred
- Prior internship experience in building design consulting.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, or pull.
- Limited exposure to outdoor weather conditions and loud noises.
