Overview

Confidential Client is seeking a Mechanical Engineering New Graduate to join a New York-based building design consulting team focused on MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) work for commercial, institutional, and government projects. This entry-level, full-time hybrid role provides hands-on HVAC, plumbing, and fire-protection design experience with mentorship, training, and a clear development path from EIT toward PE licensure.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist in design and analysis of HVAC, plumbing, and fire-protection systems using industry tools and calculations consistent with codes and firm standards.
  • Prepare design documentation, specifications, and calculations for project deliverables.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and quality-control activities to meet deadlines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and project teams to deliver integrated MEP solutions.
  • Interact with clients to gather requirements and communicate technical information professionally.
  • Analyze low- to medium-complexity engineering problems and propose practical solutions.
  • Participate in firm QA/QC processes and contribute to energy-efficient, high-performance design goals (e.g., MEP2050/AIA2030 alignment).
  • Keep current with industry trends, BIM practices, and design software improvements.

What You’ll Bring

Education & Certification

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification required.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Familiarity with HVAC load calculations, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics as applied to building systems.
  • Experience with industry-standard engineering software (HVAC load calculation tools, BIM software).
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and eagerness to learn.

Preferred

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in building design consulting.
  • Progress toward or possession of EIT certification (if not already required by the role).

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach, grasp, or pull.
  • Potential limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises during site visits.

Team & Projects

  • Join a New York corporate/commercial/governmental MEP team working on urban interiors, base-building upgrades, and civic/institutional projects across Manhattan and Long Island.
  • Recent project examples include commercial office build-outs and multi-family housing additions.

Compensation & Benefits

State of New York Salary Range: $75,000 – $79,000 per year

The salary range above represents the base pay the Confidential Client reasonably expects to pay for this position in New York at the time of posting. Actual pay will be determined by job-related factors including experience, education, skills, and certifications. Additional rewards may include annual bonuses, stock/ESOP participation, and benefits.
