This entry-level, full-time role provides hands-on MEP design, analysis, and project execution experience with structured mentoring and clear professional development. Work onsite in Atlanta supporting housing, multifamily, commercial, and retail projects while helping advance energy-efficient design goals.


What You’ll Do

Confidential Client seeks a motivated new graduate to assist project teams with mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection). Typical responsibilities include:

  • Assist in designing and analyzing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems using engineering tools and software.
  • Prepare design calculations, specifications, and construction documentation that meet code and firm standards.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and quality-control activities to meet deliverables.
  • Communicate with clients and team members to gather requirements and convey technical information.
  • Document design decisions and track design progress under senior engineer guidance.
  • Analyze low-to-medium complexity engineering problems and propose practical solutions.
  • Participate in peer-review and quality-control processes to ensure compliance with industry and client requirements.
  • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and sustainable design initiatives.
  • Prioritize safety and help identify potential safety risks in mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate across disciplines (architecture, electrical, plumbing, project management) to deliver integrated solutions.

What You’ll Bring

Required Education

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of mechanical system design concepts, tools, and documentation practices.
  • Understanding of thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics relevant to HVAC and plumbing design.
  • Experience with industry-standard engineering software, including HVAC load calculation tools.
  • Basic BIM experience and familiarity with model-based coordination.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and eagerness to learn.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to ~5% with occasional overnight stays.

Preferred

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in building design consulting.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.

Team & Work Environment

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams designing MEP systems for commercial, mixed-use, multifamily, retail, hospitality, and restaurant projects in the Southeast.
  • Projects may include complex utility coordination, rooftop HVAC integration, restaurant exhaust, and flexible tenant systems.
