Role overview
Confidential Client is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer (Mechanical Engineer I) to join the Engineering Programs Group in Schaumburg, IL. This role supports Aging Plant Management (APM) programs and other power & industrial infrastructure projects. The position is full-time and will contribute to analytical modeling, technical reports, and program deliverables for piping, corrosion, and integrity assessments.
What You’ll Do
- Run detailed analytical modeling for APM programs including:
- Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC)
- Mechanical erosion
- Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC)
- Raw/service water corrosion
- Underground piping & tanks integrity (UPTI)
- High energy piping (HEP)
- Corrosion under insulation (CUI)
- Prepare and review engineering analyses and wear calculations using analytical modeling software
- Prepare, assemble, and review calculations and technical reports
- Support additional engineering projects as assigned
- Travel up to 20% annually (may include 3–6 weeks of onsite client support)
Minimum qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent engineering degree/experience)
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Basic knowledge of ASME codes & standards and ANSI B31.1
- Understanding of piping stress, fluid flow, thermodynamics, hydraulic analysis, and heat/mass transfer
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills
- Experience working in a project team environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and take initiative
Preferred skills & attributes
- Familiarity with analytical modeling tools used for corrosion and piping integrity assessments
- Experience or coursework related to power, industrial, or nuclear facility systems
- Ability to work independently and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams
- Attention to detail and ownership over engineering deliverables
Salary range & benefits
Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000 per year.
Individual pay is determined by factors including work location, education, experience, certifications, and scope of the role.
