Position Overview
Confidential Client (via Careertakes) is hiring an entry-level to early-career Mechanical Engineer to support design, installation, and operation of process and pilot plant systems. This is a hands-on engineering role: you will design process piping, prepare drawings and BOMs, perform mechanical calculations, support fabrication and installation, and assist with pilot-plant operations in a 24/7 facility environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design process piping systems in compliance with ASME B31.3 requirements
- Prepare engineering details, drawings, and supporting documentation (including P&IDs)
- Perform routine mechanical and thermodynamic engineering calculations
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for implemented systems
- Specify instrumentation and mechanical components for process systems
- Support process integration from design through installation and commissioning
- Assist with mechanical and electrical integration as needed
- Provide hands-on support during construction, modification, and installation of process systems
- Validate completed work against drawings and design specifications
- Communicate and coordinate regularly with fabrication and operations teams
- Assist with and supervise pilot plant operations and plant-design activities
- Support operations in a 24/7 pilot plant environment; shift work and overtime as required
- Perform additional engineering and operational duties as assigned
Required Education, Knowledge & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required
- 0 years of experience required; up to 2+ years preferred
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
- Familiarity with Microsoft Visio
- Ability to perform thermodynamic and routine mechanical engineering calculations
- Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude; comfortable assisting with hands-on assembly and troubleshooting
- Strong written communication and technical documentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively with engineering, fabrication, and operations teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or academic exposure to Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
- Experience with thermal simulations
- Experience with ANSYS or similar engineering analysis software
- Prior exposure to demonstration-scale or pilot plant operations
- Experience developing or updating P&IDs
- Prior exposure to process piping design and ASME B31.3 standards
- Hands-on experience building, installing, or troubleshooting mechanical/process systems
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Work performed in plant, laboratory, and high-bay environments
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and climb stairs/ladders
- Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions
- Worksites span a large property; intermittent walking between locations required
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted; heavier lifting requires assistance
- Steel-toe safety shoes and appropriate PPE required
- Must comply with all facility and workplace safety requirements

- Must be able to successfully clear Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks
- This role is safety-sensitive
- Must be willing and able to work varying shifts to support a 24/7 facility; regular day shift typically 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Overtime and shift work may be required based on operational needs
