Position Overview

The Confidential Client is hiring a Mechanical Engineer to join their Uncrewed Systems (UxS) engineering team in Pocasset, MA. This full-time, salaried position supports design, development, testing, and manufacturing of mechanical and electromechanical systems for unmanned underwater and surface vehicles. Anticipated salary range: $64,019 – $165,000 per year. Security clearance: Ability to obtain. Required travel: 0–10%.


What You’ll Do

  • Support new development and manufacturing efforts for mechanical and electromechanical products used in underwater and unmanned systems.
  • Participate across the product lifecycle: concept, detailed design, prototype build, testing, integration, first-article release, and transition to manufacturing.
  • Create and maintain technical data packages and engineering documentation.
  • Perform material selection and structural analysis for underwater applications, including electronic packaging and sealing considerations.
  • Develop CAD models and drawings (SolidWorks) and support configuration management and change control.
  • Build prototypes and test fixtures; plan and execute mechanical tests to verify designs.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams—manufacturing, test, electronics, systems engineering—to ensure manufacturability and manufacturability improvements.
  • Contribute to failure analysis, design for manufacturing, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (requirements vary by level — see Experience Levels).
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D CAD modeling and producing manufacturing-ready drawings.
  • Knowledge of material selection and mechanical design considerations for marine/underwater environments.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis, prototyping, and test methods.
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate design intent to manufacturing and testing teams.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Experience Levels (hiring across multiple levels)

  • Level 1: Entry — 0 years’ experience with a Bachelor’s in a related field.
  • Level 2: Early — ~2 years’ relevant experience with a Bachelor’s; or 0 years with a Master’s.
  • Level 3: Mid — ~5 years’ relevant experience with a Bachelor’s; 3 years with a Master’s; or 0 years with a PhD.
  • Level 4: Senior — ~9 years’ relevant experience with a Bachelor’s; 7 years with a Master’s; or 4 years with a PhD.

Final level placement will depend on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated skills.


Preferred / Bonus Skills

  • Experience with Enterprise PDM/EPDM workflows supporting SolidWorks.
  • Manufacturing experience with marine or underwater products.
  • Failure analysis and root-cause investigation experience.
  • Experience supporting design for manufacturing, testing, and production support.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work may occur in an office, industrial, laboratory, or shipboard environment.
  • May require climbing ladders and working in confined spaces and varying temperatures.
  • Must be able to safely participate in prototype build and test activities.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Anticipated salary range: $64,019 — $165,000 per year (good-faith estimate).
  • Full-time salaried exempt role.
