What You’ll Do
Confidential Client’s Unmanned Systems team is looking for Mechanical Engineers to contribute to the design, development, testing, and manufacturing support of advanced unmanned maritime systems (UUVs/USVs) and related subsystems. Typical responsibilities include:
- Support new product development and manufacturing efforts for mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Perform material selection, structural analysis, and electronic packaging for underwater applications.
- Create and maintain CAD models and technical data packages (SolidWorks).
- Design and build prototypes, test fixtures, and first articles; support validation and verification testing.
- Coordinate fabrication, installation, operation, and repair activities with cross-functional teams.
- Support configuration management and ensure smooth transition from engineering design to manufacturing.
- Document designs, test results, and manufacturing support notes; iterate designs based on test feedback.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and troubleshooting during production runs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
We are hiring multiple experience levels. Candidates should meet one of the level-based combinations below and demonstrate strong fundamentals in mechanical design and product development for marine or harsh-environment systems.
- Level 1: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (0 years experience).
- Level 2: Bachelor’s + ~2 years relevant experience; or Master’s with 0 years experience.
- Level 3: Bachelor’s + ~5 years relevant experience; Master’s + ~3 years; or PhD with applicable experience.
- Level 4: Bachelor’s + ~9 years relevant experience; Master’s + ~7 years; or PhD + ~4 years.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance is required.
Required skills / knowledge (typical):
- Strong mechanical design fundamentals, including tolerance stacks, GD&T, and design for manufacture.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and creation of technical data packages.
- Experience with materials selection and structural analysis for wet / corrosive environments.
- Experience in prototyping and building test fixtures.
- Clear technical communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Enterprise PDM/EPDM workflows supporting 3D modeling.
- Prior manufacturing experience with marine products, underwater vehicles, or naval systems.
- Failure analysis and root-cause investigation experience.
- Background in propulsion, energy, navigation, or sensor subsystem work for unmanned platforms.
Physical & Work Environment
- May require work in office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environments.
- May require climbing ladders, accessing confined spaces, and tolerating a range of temperatures.
- Typical full-time schedule; travel typically 0–10% depending on program needs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Anticipated salary range: $64,019 — $165,000 per year (good-faith estimate).
- Estimated market median for this role: approximately $87,272 per year (estimated).
