Position overview
Confidential Client is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer (part-time, contract) to support manufacturing and machine-shop operations in Parlin, NJ. This role is ideal for recent graduates, current mechanical engineering students (who can work ~20–30 hours/week), or self-taught candidates with hands-on CNC/CAD experience.
Key responsibilities
- Support CAD and machining workflows; assist with part prints, setup, and first-article checks
- Help develop or refine CNC programs and work with operators on machine setup (milling, drilling, lathes)
- Perform hands-on shop tasks as needed and collaborate with senior engineers/technicians
- Troubleshoot tooling, fixturing, and minor process issues; document changes and observations
- Learn and follow safety and quality procedures in an onsite manufacturing environment
What we’re looking for
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred — or equivalent hands-on experience
- Current Mechanical Engineering students able to work 20–30 hours/week are encouraged to apply
- Interest or experience with CAD (e.g., SolidWorks), machining, and CNC programming
- Familiarity with HAAS CNC lathes is a plus
- Strong problem-solving mindset; reliable, self-motivated, and detail-oriented
- Comfortable working onsite and learning from experienced machinists/engineers
Position details
- Employment type: Contract (part-time/flexible); assignment expected to last 6–12 months
- Schedule: Flexible — will consider part-time (20–30 hrs/wk), full-time, or supplemental ("moonlighting") arrangements
- Hours (typical): Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (onsite required initially)
- Location: On-site in Parlin, NJ (this position is not remote)
- Compensation: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
